Loving Awareness Retreat
8th – 18th February 2020
A luxurious ten day retreat in the most stunning and exotic location. An authentic Sri Lankan retreat experience under European management.
Every so often in our lives we find a very special place and meet people that truly open our hearts, Sri Devi is that place and the owners and staff are some of those people!
Arriving in Sri Lanka is like leaving a monochrome world behind and entering a land of technicolour, the feeling of elevation is instantaneous and the smiles are warm and contagious!
Lush palm forests, peacocks and long stretches of palm fringed beaches are amongst some of the first impressions and the fragrance of frangipani, cinnamon and other spices hang on the gentle breeze.
A luxury resort, surrounded by mango trees and exotic flowers, sitting on the edge of a former paddy field, which nature has transformed into a wildlife sanctuary, with water buffaloes and a wide variety of birds. The resort is hidden away and overlooks lush green paddy fields, against the backdrop of traditional Sri Lankan village life.
Eight beautiful spacious villa-suites offer luxurious accommodation, combining beautiful colonial furniture with traditional Sri Lankan elements in either single or twin share. Each villa has a large bedroom with a generous walk-in closet and safe, an indoor lounge area, with a bar counter and tea making facility and a fabulous terrace with a magnificent view.
A sixty foot swimming pool, an outdoor covered eating and lounge area, are all part of this beautiful sanctuary. A fully equipped outdoor Yoga Shala overlooking the paddy fields and an indoor Ayurvedic treatment facility, offer a variety of traditional Ayurvedic treatments, administered in collaboration with Dr Fernando, one of the leading Ayurvedic physicians the south of Sri Lanka.
Sri Devi is located 10 kilometres from Galle, 5 kilometres from Unawatuna and just 1 kilometre from Talpe and its beaches.
It is my intention to offer participants an unforgettable retreat experience. After all, how many times in our lives might we journey this far and to such a breathtaking destination? The serenity, beauty and tranquility of this hidden gem simply have to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.
Each morning we will rise for Sadhana, gathering in silence to begin our day, to the sounds of the forest. Guided Meditation and quiet contemplation will be followed with a Pranayama and Kriya session before Gratitude journaling and flowing Asana.
The morning sessions will be held in silence, allowing the mind to settle and our consciousness to expand. The experience of the Asana is then felt in profound ways and we connect deeply to the breath and to Mother nature!
Practicing outdoors, with the luxury of the level surface of the wooden Shala floor, the only sounds to be heard are the peacocks and the chanting from the monks in the local temple, with butterflies flitting across the Shala and the delight of fragrances from the tropical, flowers plants and trees, is a truly humbling and memorable experience. The morning practice will come to fruition with a beautiful Mantra and then we waft across to the outdoor sitting area, overlooking the pool, for a brunch fit for Kings.
Most days there will be a late afternoon / early evening practice of either restorative, Yoga Nidra, or workshop style sessions, with one afternoon session devoted to Mantras and Celestial Communications. In between times I will be available for spiritual counciling sessions.
Throughout the retreat I will share between 40-50 hours of tuition.
There will be three, free afternoons and one free day, to enable participants plenty of time to explore and enjoy the many delights that Sri Lanka has to offer.
Sri Devi is close to a wide variety of attractions and are happy to arrange group or individual excursions or one can simply take a 5 minute ride in a tuk-tuk to the local sandy beach or 8 minutes to the beaches around Unawatuna. The tuk-tuks sit at the retreat under the shade of the trees all day, at our disposal (like having your own driver).
Sri Devi is situated on the southern coast of Sri Lanka which offers access to excellent beaches for relaxing and unforgettable sunsets.
A safari to see the wild elephants in Yala National Park

Rusindu (the chef) and his team are incredibly creative, using only the finest and freshest ingredients. Sri Devi has its own organic garden growing vegetables, fruit and herbs, which are then plucked from the earth, along with other locally sourced ingredients and used to create delicious Sri Lankan cuisine, including curries, sambals and other delights. Although our retreat food is fundamentally vegetarian, the freshest of locally caught fish and seafood can be sampled. We can decide as a group on the preferred menu once we arrive. Special dietary requirements can be catered for, as long as these are requested at the time of booking the retreat.
